The Instax SQ1 is the second Instax analog camera to use square film after the SQ6. In comparison, the two cases of the SQ1 and SQ6 have a relatively identical square outer case, although the SQ1 is slightly thicker for a better grip in the hand. This blood orange color is adorable and really brings out the playful Instax brand. Fujifilm decided to remove the on/off switch and retractable lens mechanism (powered from the SQ6), reflecting the tradition of the old film camera. To turn on, simply rotate the outer part of the lens. This option takes you even further into the world of analog technology, which really adds to the charm of the overall camera experience.
All in all, it is a nostalgic product designed for cheerful and fun outings, which can also be given as a gift to friends and family. It will keep precious memories for years to come and allows you to immediately share with good company. While Fujifilm's Instant film technology hasn't changed dramatically, the company has still sought to tweak its auto exposure specifications to provide new and improved shooting possibilities when using the same Instax film. You can see subtle differences in images taken with the older SQ6 and SQ1 - colors are deeper, richer and more vibrant, while still retaining a sense of quality and detail. The photos are no longer overexposed, which is a huge plus. The SQ1 takes surprisingly good photos in low light, making it the perfect camera for evenings out with friends or family.
